Discover the Wisdom of the Kogi and the Spiritual Lessons of an Indigenous People
In the imposing mountains of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia live the indigenous Kogi people, guardians of an ancestral culture with more than 4,000 years of history. They have preserved their pre-Columbian traditions until now and are one of the last societies in Latin America to resist the impacts of globalisation.
The Kogi are now emerging from isolation to share their ancient wisdom with the modern world. Their messages offer powerful reflections on how to face the ecological, social and individual challenges of the 21st century.
They believe that many of today’s crises stem from our unbalanced worldview and invite us to adopt a new perspective.
Who are the Kogi and what can we learn from them?
The Kogi are not just a remnant of the past, but a community that lives a deep and spiritually active relationship with the planet, and that closely observes the impact of the modern society on the environment. They call the Sierra Nevada the ‘Heart of the World’ and see environmental destruction as a threat not just to the planet, but to the essence of life.
Lucas Buchholz, the author of this book, was invited by the elders of the Kogi people to visit their villages, learn about their worldview and write this book. In this work, Buchholz brings together unique teachings that reveal how the Kogi balance tradition and spirituality, their relationship with nature and the planet.
Why are the Kogi teachings relevant today?
The Kogi share an urgent message: it’s time to rethink our relationship with the environment and with ourselves. They propose a number of transformative questions that help us to:
This book does not suggest abruptly abandoning the modern lifestyle, but invites us to integrate ancestral practices to create a more regenerative and balanced future.

Lucas Buchholz began questioning and looking for alternatives to the current paradigm at an early age.
He was born in 1989 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and during his studies in economics, politics and peace and conflict studies, he explored ancient philosophies, future-orientated concepts and unconventional approaches.
After working for major international institutions in Mozambique, Jordan and Pakistan, he sought to have a more direct impact on change.
The author of two books and a speaker, his mission is to inspire individuals, organisations and companies to shape themselves to create a regenerative world, demonstrating how the modern world can learn from and act in accordance with indigenous cultures and wisdom traditions.
These indigenous peoples have lived sustainably for millennia, embracing all forms of life and retaining invaluable timeless wisdom.
Lucas worked for almost a decade with the indigenous Kogi people of Colombia, from whom he received an extraordinary invitation – to visit them in the hills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
After spending several months in the isolated world of the Kogi, they asked him to take their message to the world and write a book about them – the Elder Brothers – for us – the Younger Brothers.
They also asked him to create an academy of indigenous wisdom and to help them recover their ancestral lands.
The first request has already been fulfilled with the creation of the Timeless Wisdom Academy and the non-profit organisation Sacred Future, of which he is the founder and which aim to share profound insights and reflections, working deeply with indigenous knowledge.
